Lena Wise is always looking forward to tomorrow, especially at the start of her senior year. She’s ready to pack in as much friend time as possible, to finish college applications and to maybe let her childhood best friend Sebastian know how she really feels about him. For Lena, the upcoming year is going to be epic—one of opportunities and chances.

Until one choice, one moment, destroys everything.

Now Lena isn’t looking forward to tomorrow. Not when friend time may never be the same. Not when college applications feel all but impossible. Not when Sebastian might never forgive her for what happened.

For what she let happen.

With the guilt growing each day, Lena knows that her only hope is to move on. But how can she move on when her and her friends’ entire existences have been redefined? How can she move on when tomorrow isn’t even guaranteed?

My Review:
A beautifully written coming-of-age story that packs a powerful punch. Emotional, insightful, and ultimately uplifting in the end, this book captured my attention from the instant I picked it up and I barely put it down until I finished it.

I am a massive JLA fan and I’ve made no secret of the fact that I think her YA paranormal series is her best work, but after reading TPWF and ITNT, I have to say that her YA contemporary romances are now vying for that prime position.

Even though this is a complete standalone and it’s in no way connected with TPWF, it stirs the same emotions, the same intensity, and the same addictiveness. At least, it did for me.

I read this book in less than twenty-four hours but that is nothing new for me with a JLA book.

Lena was a fantastic MC – a genuinely nice, sweet girl who made a bad decision and was slowly allowing it to chip away at her self-esteem and her self-worth. Her whole world tilted on its axis overnight and she was drowning in a sea of guilt and self-loathing. Sebastien, her BFF and longtime secret crush, was her rock, and he tried everything to get her to open up, but she was terrified of telling him the truth.

Sebastien was a swoony leading man and I loved the delicious push and pull nature of their relationship as they both held back from making the first move. Their connection was beautiful and it jumped off the pages of my Kindle. All the little touches and gestures and actions were gorgeous and I was totally rooting for them.

When the big event occurred it came out of nowhere and took me by complete surprise. Gosh, my heart was in my mouth and I was devastated at the fallout. I couldn’t believe it and I read on with a definite tightness in my chest. Jennifer perfectly demonstrated the whole gamut of emotions one would feel in such a situation and it was expertly written. She didn’t shy away from tackling the complex aspects of the tragedy, and it was real, raw, vulnerable, and so gritty and powerful. It made me stop and think about choices and consequences and responsibility. The message was very well delivered.

In the end, we get our HEA and I was so happy. It’s taken me a few days to write this review because I’m still processing it all. For me, that is always the sign of a great book.

If you enjoy emotional romances with a powerful message and books that really make you delve deep and think, then this is the perfect read for you.

Another showstopper, Ms. Armentrout. Thank you so much for another fantastic read, and for the advance complimentary copy which I’m always very grateful to receive.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
