My Review:
A Dark, Dangerous, Seductive Tale of Love, Lust, Betrayal, Manipulation, and Obsessive Control. Not for the faint-hearted!

Laurelin Paige is one of my favorite authors and I have yet to find a book she has written that I don’t obsessively love. I adored First Touch, the first book in this series, and I thought I’d die after that cliffhanger ending – it was seriously good. I was delighted, therefore, to receive a copy of this book to review and even though I have a list of other ARCs and review books to read, I couldn’t resist getting stuck straight in.

However, I had a bit of a love/hate relationship with this book. From a literary perspective, it is an absolute triumph, a masterful, skillfully-woven piece of fiction that has been expertly crafted to the very minutest detail. Seriously well done, Ms. Paige. I think this may be your best yet – and I don’t say that lightly because I have adored every book in your Fixed and Found series.

But I have to admit to absolutely hating reading this at times. This is going to sound contradictory because I did love it too, but it’s because the characters are so real that I really grew to hate and love them in equal measures. Not only has the author buried her way into these characters heads, she has consumed them completely, body, heart, mind and soul. So much so that they felt abnormally real to me. Reeve, Amber, and Emily are some of the most complex characters I have ever read about. I am in awe of Laurelin’s ability to bring these flawed characters to life with so much depth and substance. I can only imagine how stressful it must have been to write this at times, but let me say that the execution was absolutely flawless.

God, this is probably going to come across like a whacko review but my mind is blown apart after reading Last Kiss.

The sex scenes are depraved but hot and the chemistry between Emily and Reeve is explosive. Have a fan by your bed girls!

The plot is decent and moves along at a steady pace. The writing flows beautifully. But it is the characterization that makes this book stand out from the crowd.

There were times when I had to put my Kindle down as I was in so much inner turmoil. Seriously, my insides were twisted into knots reading this, and my anxiety levels were off the charts. I screamed at Emily to stop being such a bloody doormat. I screamed at Reeve to stop playing so many games. I hated Amber with an intensity that is most unlike me. The only sense of relief I felt was at the very end (no spoilers here – read it and you’ll see what I mean.) Does it make me sick and depraved that I actually cheered at that part?!

This book touches on deep-seated issues like child abuse, dysfunctional relationships, sexual abuse and depravity, and emotional and physical torture. It was tough going at times, but ultimately the message is positive in the end.

I’m still reeling and I know this book is going to stay with me for a long time to come. That Ms. Paige can get into MY head in such a manner demonstrates how amazingly talented she is. I cannot wait to read what she releases next.

Thanks to the publisher for providing a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. If this review is all over the place you can blame the author for doing such a stellar job of messing with my head. Lol.

Highly recommended to fans of well-written erotic romantic suspense.
