When Greyson Archer tosses a twenty on the stage of a strip club, the last thing he expects to see are the haunted green eyes staring back at him. Finley should be home raising her infant daughter and baking cookies, not tucking singles into her G-string and giving lap dances.

Greyson can’t deny that he’d like his own private show, but there’s not a chance in hell of that happening. The last time the former Navy SEAL saw her she was dressed in black, holding a folded flag and sobbing that it was all his fault… and he agreed with every single word. He couldn’t do anything to help her then, but he can now.

Finley deserves better than this dingy club, and when an obsessed customer crosses the line, Greyson leads the rescue and will do whatever it takes to make amends for their broken past.

He never expected to want to settle down, but with Finley, everything is different. For the first time ever, he can breathe. But Greyson will have to fight for what he wants in order to keep the woman with the green eyes he’s dreamed about so often.

Slow & Steady is book 2 in the Alphas Undone series, but can be read as a standalone novel, as it features a new couple.

Abstract grunge dark navy background, vintage background rough texture

My Review:
I enjoyed the first book in this series, and I’m glad that the second installment was a decent read too. Kendall Ryan is fast becoming one of my favorite authors and I enjoy her signature style of writing. You are guaranteed a smoking hot read with plenty of interesting, complex characters, plots with emotional depth, and swoon-worthy leading men who would literally burn the world down for their women.

Grey is no exception. Wallowing in a pit of guilt for what happened with Mason, Finley’s deceased husband, Grey hasn’t lived much of a life in the two years since his death. He has thrown himself into his work and casual hook-ups and not allowed himself to even anticipate happiness. A chance encounter with Finley changes everything.

As a struggling single mom, Finley has taken to the strip pole. It’s dangerous, especially with a creepy guy who appears to be fixated on her, but she feels she is all out of options. When Grey turns up unexpectedly, she is brash and aloof, still bearing the scars of grief, something she feels is his fault. Gradually, she opens up to him, sharing her family life with him, and that exposes deeper vulnerabilities. Ashamed of their growing attraction, she continually pushes him away, conflicted by feelings of guilt and betrayal. Grey is upset at her persistent rejection though he has an inkling of what is going through her head.

I was anxiously waiting for the plot regarding the stalker to develop, and when it did it was a bit of a letdown. It was over in the blink of an eye, and I wish this had been fleshed out more. As it’s written, I didn’t feel like she was ever in any real danger. I would have liked this to have been darker, and more realistic. I think if a guy had a girl he had been fantasizing about in his house for three days he would have taken it further. It’s the only reason this is a 4-star rather than 5-star review, because I can’t find fault with anything else.

The writing is good, the pacing is spot on, romance is perfect, characterization is superb.

All in all, another great read from this author.

Thanks to Inkslinger PR and the publisher for providing a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Excerpt:
It was nine o’clock on a Saturday night and I was totally out of my fucking element. A bottle of red wine tucked under one arm. A bouquet of wild flowers in the other. A condom tucked into my wallet, just in case. I was in foreign territory, and my entire body knew it – tense shoulders, my heart beating like a drum, and arousal barely contained beneath the surface.
Finley was standing at the doorway, watching me with a confused expression.
She looked gorgeous, makeup free, pink-painted toes, hair mussed and loose. Little cotton pajama shorts and a tank top that hugged her lush breasts.
“Maple’s not here.” She said the words, but she knew as well as I did I wasn’t here for Maple.
“I know that.” My voice was sure and confident.
“Then why are you … oh.” Finley shifted her weight, her eyes dropping from mine as she saw the wine and flowers. She could read it all, plain as day. I knew she could see my intentions, my uncertainty, and underneath it all, my desire. Maybe it was the desire to fix everything I’d broken, or maybe it was just my desire for her as a man desires a woman.
Normally when I felt that primal urge for sex, I headed to West’s bar. I’d pick out a woman for the night. Share a few drinks with her, a few laughs. Later, we’d head back to my place and fuck until dawn. And that was it. I’d be set for a few months.
This … with the courting and the nerves … it was nothing like my standard operating procedure.
I’d never felt so stripped bare and vulnerable. Never put myself out there so completely with a woman before. But then again, Finley was unlike any woman I’d ever met.
And she was still just standing there. “Can I come inside?” I asked, heart in my throat.
She didn’t say anything. But she opened the door wider.
With Nolan’s words ringing in my ears, I stepped over the threshold, sure that whatever happened tonight had the power to heal us both.

Review: Daring Her Love: A Bradens Novella (Love in Bloom #22) by Melissa Foster

Daring her LoveTitle: Daring Her Love: A Bradens Novella
Author: Melissa Foster
Series: Love in Bloom #22
Rating: 4 stars
Genres: Contemporary Romance
Links:

Blurb:
This Braden novella features Kat Martin, Brianna Heart’s best friend from Hearts at Play (The Bradens, #6) with appearances from the hot, wealthy, and wickedly naughty Bradens you know and love.

Kat Martin knows what she wants in a man—someone stable and adoring, definitely not the type of guy who sleeps around. After all, Kat rarely does the wrong thing—until she meets seductively enticing Eric James, and suddenly wrong has never felt so right.

When it comes to his career, race-car driver Eric James is intense, obsessive, and passionate, but when it comes to sex, there’s only one kind—daring, unbridled, and no-strings-attached.

One stormy night, a delayed flight and the dangerous allure of the unknown leads Kat to throw caution to the wind, and she indulges in a rendezvous that she vows to immediately forget—but the secret tryst stirs something possessive in Eric, and forgetting is not an option.

My Review:
Daring Her Love is an enjoyable quick read that will appeal to fans of well-written, consistently-paced, steamy contemporary romance.

While I haven’t read any of the Braden novels, it didn’t matter in the slightest as the story still stands on its own. That said, I’m intrigued to discover more about Hugh and Brianna’s story and I will most definitely be grabbing a copy of that book in the near future.

While I felt the plot was fairly predictable, and a tad cliche and cheesy at times, it was still a good read. This was largely due to the romance and sexy times; the chemistry between Kat and Eric was scorching, and while it was a case of insta-lust/love, it felt believable in a head-over-heels once-in-a-lifetime type way. I enjoyed the witty banter between our couple and how they were both open and honest with each other despite mutual vulnerability.

As it’s a novella, it’s hard to delve deep into the characters psyche (this is where reading the other books in the series would be advantageous) but I felt the author achieved as much as she could, and I had a decent enough grasp of both personalities.

I was excited to read a book about race-car drivers as my dad was involved in that scene for years in Ireland, and my early childhood weekends were spent at a race track. We didn’t really get to see much of it (again, constraints of a novella) but what we did see was exciting all the same. This is another reason why I want to check out Hugh and Brianna’s book.

I enjoyed Melissa’s writing style and the words glided effortlessly across the page.

All in all, a great read and one I’d recommend.

In the little highway town of Bourbon, Missouri, deadly secrets lurk behind Southern charm.

Seventeen year old Charli Valentine didn’t expect to spend the last few weeks of summer break nursing a broken heart, icing a black eye, and watching her ex kiss another girl. Since being a good girl has gotten her nothing but heartache, Charli decides to give rebellion a try. She pigs out, drinks, and hangs with Luke Parker, the son of the infamous Bourbon Butcher.

But there’s more to Luke than meets the eye. His tough exterior and terrible dialect hide a good person despite his bad boy reputation. No matter how hard he tries to fight it, Luke is drawn to Charli’s innocence and finds her clumsiness too charming to resist. Though they’re from opposite sides of the tracks, neither can resist the magnetism drawing them together.

When Charli discovers a box in her mother’s closet, she pieces together the truth about Bourbon’s past and uncovers a deadly secret about her family. And once Luke learns of it, he vows to protect Charli no matter the cost.

Excerpt:
LUKE

I pulled out my cell phone and a cigarette—the fourth one I’d smoked since Charli left. She was bound to be the leading cause of death among seventeen-and-a-half-year-old males named Luke who could hardly contain their hardons when her perfume wafted past.
I stared at an empty text box for too long. I needed to say something. It didn’t have to be important. Maybe I’d tell her what a bitch she’d been for leaving with them. Or something nicer. Something that might make her smile. Just something to let her know how pretty she looked tonight. There was no harm in that.
– You took my breathe away, Charli Chip.
Realizing I’d messed up, looking like the white trash idiot she probably thought I was, I hurried to type another one.
–Breath. Fuck. I meant breath.
Shit, I’d said fuck.
–I didn’t mean fuck. I just meant…you’re beautiful. I’ve never seen anyone so gorgeous in my entire life. I wanted to wrap you in my arms and keep you forever.
Did that sound creepy? I didn’t want her thinking I was actually going to kidnap her. My words were figurative, she’d know that, right? I wanted to keep her until I was done bagging her, and then I’d be done with her. So…not forever. For tonight. Maybe tomorrow morning.
-Not trying to be weird or nothing. Just saying. You’re…you. So…yeah…
Oh damn. Was there any way to un-send messages? I stared at the screen for several minutes, expecting something. She wouldn’t just not respond. Charli wasn’t like that.
I was alone in the grocery store parking lot analyzing what Charli Valentine would and would not do with her text messages. There was something wrong with me. I was sick. I’d caught some sort of virus.
I shoved my phone into my pocket. I wouldn’t look at it again. I wouldn’t message her again. Fuck her. She didn’t want a compliment, then she could go straight to hell.
When Colly finally locked up the store, he was business-as-usual. “Did you bring h-home the finance report from the garage?” He walked around the truck and crawled behind the wheel.
“Uh, was I supposed to?” Finance report? Hopefully he meant the little book with carbon copies of receipts. I slid into the seat, very aware of him not looking at me.
“I w-was going to figure the months…” Shaking his head, his fingers tightened on the wheel. “You don’t think she’ll sleep with him after h-he pulled that, do you?” Hunching over in defeat, he breathed “Don’t answer that.”
“If it makes you feel any better, she looked miserable with him. Not just, like, a little, but a lot.” Whether she’d sleep with him was a whole other story. From what I’d heard, Lonna Stuart would take her clothes off for just about anyone.
Anyone who didn’t have the last name Parker, that is.
Not that I’d ever tried. That was a fine line I’d never cross. She’d never tried either, probably not wanting to ruin my brother’s infatuation with her.
Her crazy, female brain fed off of shit like that, and she thrived knowing he was dying just to be near her. His obsession would pass, eventually. It made me feel better to know one day he’d be a famous football player, and she’d be a washed-up housewife. Fat. In my fantasy she was fat.
I was dying to rub that in her face.

Wingman rule number one: don’t fall for a client.

After a career-ending accident, former NFL recruit Ian Hunter is back on campus—and he’s ready to get his new game on. As one of the masterminds behind Wingmen, Inc., a successful and secretive word-of-mouth dating service, he’s putting his extensive skills with women to work for the lovelorn. But when Blake Olson requests the services of Wingmen, Inc., Ian may have landed his most hopeless client yet.

From her frumpy athletic gear to her unfortunate choice of footwear, Blake is going to need a miracle if she wants to land her crush. At least with a professional matchmaker by her side she has a fighting chance. Ian knows that his advice and a makeover can turn Blake into another successful match. But as Blake begins the transformation from hot mess to smokin’ hot, Ian realizes he’s in danger of breaking his cardinal rule.…

My Review:
Rachel Van Dyken is definitely a one-click author for me. I think this is the fifth book I have read by this very talented author and I have loved each and every one. Boy does Rachel know how to write great romantic comedy that is fresh, original, hysterically funny, and chock-a-block full of interesting characters and tons of swoon-worthy scenes.

I thought Ian was a total jackass at the start. Seriously, some of the crap coming out of his mouth made me want to reach into my Kindle and slap him around a bit. But he rapidly grew on me. Underneath all that swagger, he has a heart of gold. And he’s hot. And a modern day Superman. Yup, he’s the full package.

Ian has never been in love, and he’s quite dismissive of the notion until he meets Blake and she worms her way in deep.

Blake started out absolutely hating his guts, and it was really funny when she realized he was part of Wingman Inc. I loved the progression of their relationship and it developed quickly but naturally. It was pretty obvious how this one was going to play out but I was still surprised that David turned out to be such a douchecanoe. Blake is an intelligent girl and I can’t believe she would be so in love with someone who clearly didn’t value her friendship in the end. That’s the only part I wish had been written differently.

The dating service angle was different and not what I was expecting (in a good way.) Ian was so spot-on with the women, and it gave me plenty of laugh out loud moments. I loved that Lex had a nerdy IT side and he put it to good use producing matchmaking reports/stats. Loved that!

The writing and pacing are spot-on, and as so often happens with a book from one of my favorite authors, I started it last night intending on maybe reading half of it and stayed up until 2 a.m. to finish it. Read it in one go. Could not sit it down. It was way too entertaining.

Lex is a very intriguing character and I look forward to reading his story. It’s obvious that he and Gabi actually love each other underneath all the snarking, and I know the next book is going to be a real roller-coaster read jam-packed with angst and tormented toing and froing. I, for one, can’t wait for it!

If you enjoy well written romantic comedy you will adore this book. Highly recommended.

Excerpt :
“If you hurt her, I’m going to break off your favorite appendage.”
“Silly Gabi.” I grinned. “Is that an invitation to touch?”
“Guarantee if I ever do touch you, it will only end badly.”
“Tease.” I winked.
“Stop that.” She flicked me on the nose. “Your sexual prowess is dead to me. Dead!”
Rolling my eyes, I wrapped an arm around her and steered us both into the kitchen, where the smell of French bread and spaghetti filled the air. “Have I told you how much I miss our weekly dinners? Think we should do it daily? You know, so I don’t starve?”
Gabi shrugged out of my embrace. “Learn how to cook.”
I jutted out my lower lip. “It’s not for lack of knowledge.” I broke off a piece of warm bread, then poured myself a large glass of wine. “It’s because yours always tastes better.”
Gabi groaned loudly. “Damn, do the girls really fall for that? Still?”
“Eh.” I shrugged and made a so-so motion with my hand. “Nine out of ten.”
“You disgust me.”
“You say that every day.”
“Because it’s true every day.”
“When’s dinner ready?” Serena bounced into the room, literally, her head bobbing from left to right. Maybe that’s how girls like her built up more brain cells. They shook the air, and the pressure between their ears exploded, making tiny little brain-cell babies.
Gabi poked her head into the fridge. “When Lex gets here.”
“So it’s ready now?” she asked.
Never mind. No brain-cell babies. I fought the urge to point to the steaming spaghetti and bread sitting on the breakfast bar. Didn’t it look ready, kiddo?
“Technically,” I answered for Gabi. “But we aren’t eating”—I stressed the word “eating” even though I’d just taken some bread—“until my sidekick gets here.”
“Sidekick, huh?” Serena crossed her arms, forcing her boobs to kiss one another and nearly hit her in the chin.
“Oh, I thought you knew.” I gave her a sad face. “I’m the hero in this scenario . . . Even own my own cape. He’s basically the Robin to my Batman.”
“Batman’s hot.”
“So is Robin,” Gabi said defensively.
Whoa. Did she just defend Lex? I felt her forehead. She pushed my hand away and handed me some parmesan cheese.
The door flew open, and Lex stepped through, holding up two bottles of Cab. “Sorry, traffic was shit.”
“Language,” Gabi called.
Lex and I shared a look before Lex stomped over to the swear jar and tossed in a dollar bill.

Review: Playing For Fun (Due South #6) by Tracey Alvarez

Playing for FunTitle: Playing For Fun
Author: Tracey Alvarez
Series: Due South #6
Rating: 5 stars
Genres: Contemporary Romance
Links:

Blurb:
PLAYING FOR FUN is the sixth story in Tracey Alvarez’s best-selling Due South books set against the stunning backdrop of Aotearoa, New Zealand. If you like Jill Shalvis, Marie Force, or Bella Andre, then you’ll enjoy diving into these heart-warming, sexy & seductive small-town romances with authentic men and women struggling to find their special someone.

Wanted: A woman for Ford.
Ford Komeke can’t deny he could use an up-skill in the dating arena. It’s a local in-joke that his game, as far as women go, sucks. Thanks to the meddling of New Zealand’s worst octogenarian matchmaker, he’s got an online dating profile, a new wardrobe, and a haircut from Stewart Island’s sexy hairdresser, Holly Parker. But since he’s well and truly mired in the friendzone with Holly, what’s the harm in exploring his options? A little jealousy could work wonders.

Offered: Dream job with a catch.
What do you say when you’re offered an un-turn-downable career opportunity? You say, hell-to-the-yeah! Only there’s a problem. To get the dream job Holly must leave Stewart Island and her two best friends, Shaye and Ford. But if Holly can distract Shaye with wedding planning and set Ford up with a nice girl so she can stop imagining him naked, neither will notice if she exits stage right. Neither will notice if her feelings for Ford stop being strictly platonic.

Warning: One kiss is never enough.
As addictive as the chocolate stash Holly hides in her fridge, one kiss forces them out of the friendzone—way out of the friendzone. Heat and hunger explode, but the ugliness in Ford’s past hold his heart hostage. Playing for fun or playing for keeps? Holly and Ford must decide because the consequences of falling in love means that someone’s heart or someone’s dream will ultimately end up shattered.

My Review:
Anyone that follows me on social media will know I am a massive fan of Tracey’s Due South series. I was therefore very excited to get the opportunity to beta read this book in advance of publication.

What can I say? I LOVED Holly and Ford’s story and I ADORED being back in the amazing small-knit community that Tracey has created, and it was FANTASTIC to catch up with some of my favorite characters (especially Shaye and Del, they are my absolute favs)

Ford had a very difficult early childhood, and he is still showcasing the scars. He’s also very much lost in his twin brothers shadow. Mrs. Taylor (the community busy body with a heart of gold) decides he needs a woman and she ropes in his bestie Holly to help with her matchmaking. Holly and Ford are great friends but she’s been harboring more than friendly feelings for him for some time. There were lots of hilarous scenes where Ford is on dates with some crazy chicks! LOL funny.

Holly has an opportunity to leave the Island, and she is torn. On the one hand there is Ford, and her adopted-grandma, and her BFF Shaye, but on the other hand most of her friends are all married or engaged and she feels like she’s skirting the fringes of their lives.

This is more than just a simple friends to lovers story. Ford needs Holly to help him overcome his demons, and she needs his love to keep her where she has always belonged. Ford clams up whenever the conversation gets heavy, where Holly really needs to see him vulnerable, so she knows she can truly trust him and plan a future with him. The path to true love and real trust is not an easy one and it’s filled with plenty of angst and heartache.

This was a fantastic read for a book that is still undergoing final round of editing. It’s testament to Tracey’s considerable talent that I’m already rating it 5 stars – it was seriously that good. The worldbuilding and character development was solid, pacing is perfect, and the writing is amazeballs as usual. It’s also filled with plenty of sexy times and funny dialogue, both of which I’ve come to expect from this author.

If you love this series then you must read this book. And if you haven’t checked out this series yet then what are you waiting for? In Too Deep, Book 1 is free on all major online retailers.

Thanks to the author for gifting me a review copy in exchange for my honest review. This has in no way influenced my opinion.

After reading the first book in this series, I just had to read this one to catch up with Wes and Kiersten.

It’s very short, and essentially just covers their wedding but I loved it. I am also totally intrigued now about Gabe and Saylor (really should have read that book before this one but I’ll backtrack) and dying to uncover the mystery that is Lisa and her dark past.

My only complaint is that the language Wes uses is a bit unbelievable for a bloke – way too flowery and emotional. He was like that in the first book to a certain extent, but it was overdone here. Still, it’s only a minor point.

Great series. Great author.
Recommended.

When unlucky in love Mia O’Halloran finds herself face to Sex God V-Lines with a chiseled, hot male stripper in possession of a package not even the postal service could lose, what happens in Vegas is definitely supposed to stay in Vegas.
She doesn’t expect to find Mr. Multiple Oh-Oh-Oh as her client—and hell, how is she supposed to pitch a marketing plan when she can remember how easily he briefed her g-spot on an orgasm… or five?
West Rykman has one rule: you don’t mix business with pleasure. They can look, but unless they’re shoving a dollar inside his pants, they can’t touch. He learned that lesson the hard way two years ago.
He had no idea the flame-haired vixen with a penchant for hot, kinky sex and a mouth that would make a hooker cry would be the one to bend—and break—his rule.
She’s sworn off men after ten too many heartbreaks.
He’s determined he’ll never lose it all for a woman again.
She’s pretty screwed.
He’s really screwed.
And not in the we’re-not-sleeping-tonight way…

DSC_9249About the Author:
By day, New York Times and USA Today Bestselling New Adult author Emma Hart dons a cape and calls herself Super Mum to two beautiful little monsters. By night, she drops the cape, pours a glass of whatever she fancies – usually wine – and writes books.
Emma is working on Top Secret projects she will share with her followers and fans at every available opportunity. Naturally, all Top Secret projects involve a dashingly hot guy who likes to forget to wear a shirt, a sprinkling (or several) of hold-onto-your-panties hot scenes, and a whole lotta love.
She likes to be busy – unless busy involves doing the dishes, but that seems to be when all the ideas come to life.
