In the irresistibly sexy series from #1 New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout, two free spirits find their lives changed by a one-night stand…

Some things you just believe in, even if you’ve never experienced them. For Stephanie, that list includes love. It’s out there. Somewhere. Eventually. Meanwhile she’s got her job at the mixed martial arts training center and hot flings with gorgeous, temporary guys like Nick. Then a secret brings them closer, opening Steph’s eyes to a future she never knew she wanted—until tragedy rips it away.

Nick’s self-assured surface shields a past no one needs to know about. His mind-blowing connection with Steph changes all that. As fast as he’s knocking down the walls that have kept him commitment-free, she’s building them up again, determined to keep the hurt—and Nick—out. But he can’t walk away. Not when she’s the only one who’s ever made him wish for forever . . .

My Review:
I’ll admit that I’d been resisting reading this book despite devouring every other book in this series the instant they were released. I’ve loved all the other books, with the exception of Be with Me (because Jase is a total douche canoe) so I wasn’t sure how I was going to react to this one.

My biggest issue was Stephanie. I have detested her throughout this series and I didn’t want Jennifer to make me like her. I really dislike girls like her and to be honest, it really took me a good while to warm up to her. By the end, I did have sympathy for her and I felt like I understood her more. Still can’t say I’m overly fond of her.

Nick saved this book for me. He’s always been a bit of an enigma, and I liked learning more about him. He is a really good guy, and he has a good heart. I didn’t swoon over him like I did with Cam and Jax, but he is still decent leading-man material.

The plot handles two sensitive inter-linked subject matters in Jennifer’s usual inimitable style. The story was solidly built and appropriately handled without glossing over the difficult of the situations they faced. Emotional depth was decent.

However, the plot was very predictable and that’s the main reason why this is a 4-star rating. I thought we might have seen more of the subplot surrounding Rick, as I’m sensing there’s more to this story. Possibly I’m thinking it’s linked to what happened to Roxy and those other girls in the last book, and maybe it will be developed in the next book. Or I could be completely on the wrong page. Guess we’ll see!

If you have read the other books in this series then I think you’ll enjoy this one. For me, it’s not my favorite, but still a very decent read.

Carrigan O’Malley has always known her arranged marriage would be more about power and prestige than passion. But after one taste of the hard-bodied, whiskey-voiced James Halloran, she’s ruined for anyone else. Too bad James and his family are enemy number 1.

Hallorans vs. O’Malleys—that’s how it’s always been. James should be thinking more about how to expand his family’s empire instead of how silky Carrigan’s skin is against his and how he can next get her into his bed. Those are dangerous thoughts. But not nearly as dangerous as he’ll be if he can’t get what he wants: Carrigan by his side for the rest of their lives.

My Review:
Carrigan and James fall for each other despite their families being sworn enemies, and irrespective of the fact that her father is currently arranging her wedding to a man of his choosing.

I haven’t read the first book in this series but it didn’t matter, as this book can be read as a standalone. That said, I really want to read the first book now as I’m intrigued to learn more about this world.

The romance is perfect in this book – I liked how it progressed. Both mains are likeable despite their family backgrounds, or maybe it’s because of it. Both of them have good hearts and want to change the way their families conduct business. It’s one of the things that attracts them to each other.

I started this book thinking it was going to focus more on the ‘family business’ and the crime and corruption etc. However, the majority of this book focuses on the romance and it’s only the last thirty percent where we got into the meat of the other plotline. I especially loved the latter part of the book and it had plenty of action and twists and turns. I would have preferred more worldbuilding and suspense. For me, that would have made this book more of a stand-out.

That’s not to imply that I didn’t enjoy it, because I did. The writing and pacing are good and the characters were well-crafted.

Overall, this was a good first introduction to Katee Roberts, and I look forward to checking out more of her work in future.

I received a copy of this book from the publicist and publisher via Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.

Excerpt:
“What are you wearing?”
A pause, as if she’d shocked him. “You’re hitting on me.”
“Are you complaining?” She twisted around in her chair and stared into the mirror on the wall across from her. When he didn’t immediately respond, she kept going. The only alternative was to back down, and Carrigan was so goddamn tired of backing down. The only reason she kept taking James’s calls was because of the distraction he offered her. If he wasn’t going to play, there was no reason for her to stay on the phone.
She really wanted him to stay on the phone. “Shy? That’s okay, I’ll go first. I’m wearing a thin white tank top and a pair of black panties.” She was a liar, but it would take all of five seconds to make it the truth.
“Lovely, you’re testing me.” His voice gained an edge.
Good. At least someone was feeling as out of control as she was. “I suppose you’d like photographic proof.” She stood and shimmied out of her long skirt, and then pinned the phone between her ear and shoulder while she unhooked her bra and took it off. “Hold, please.”
Ignoring his cursing, she adjusted her angle so he would have to be blind to miss the faint outline of her nipples against the fabric of her tank top, and snapped a picture. She knew she was playing with fire. Good lord, of course she knew. But she wasn’t about to stop. She grinned as she sent the picture.
Carrigan put the phone back to her ear in time to hear his sharp inhale. “Your turn.” She held her breath, waiting to see if he’d actually do it. Receiving pictures was one thing. Putting them out in the world was entirely another. Really, she shouldn’t have taken the risk in the first place. There was no telling what he would do with them—they might show up on the Internet. Then who would want to marry her?
Funny, but the idea of countless men checking out her rack didn’t bother her nearly as much if it meant she dodged the marriage bullet. The shame on her family might be enough that her father would send her away permanently. She’d like to spend some time in New York or LA or even New Orleans. Maybe Rome or Paris or Tokyo. The world was so damn big and she’d only seen a little slice of it.
Her phone beeped, pulling her out of her thoughts. She glanced at the picture he’d sent and started to shake. Oh my God. James was shirtless, wearing only those goddamn jeans she couldn’t seem to get enough of. And they were unbuttoned—a clear invitation if she ever saw one. An invitation she desperately wanted to accept. “Damn, James. Somebody taught you how to selfie.”
“Maybe I’m a natural.” His voice was little more than a growl. “You started this, lovely. Tell me what’s next.”
The strange mix of command and handing her the reins got her head back in the game. She walked over to her bed and climbed onto it, trying to ignore the trembling in her legs. She could be in charge. She wanted to be. “I’m lying on my bed.”
“What color are the sheets?”
The question seemed to carry far more import than it should. “White.”
“They don’t suit you. Red is your color. Go on.” He sounded so damn imperial, as if he actually knew her. He didn’t. No one did, really. She wore so many masks, sometimes she worried she’d forget the woman at the center of them all.
But this time he was right. She would have chosen red for herself.
Carrigan put the thought away and focused on the now. “You talk too much.”
“My mistake.” He didn’t sound the least bit sorry. Good. She wasn’t, either. “How do you want it, lovely? Rough, I’d bet. You’re not fucking breakable, and I think you love to be reminded of that fact.” Something rustled on his end of the line. “Close your eyes.”
She obeyed without thinking, and then instantly snapped them open. “I thought I was in charge.”
“You let me know if I get something wrong.” His laugh told her how unlikely he found the possibility.

Review: Rock Candy Kisses (3:AM Kisses #4) by Addison Moore

Annie Edwards was born deaf, but she’s never let that define her. She’s settling in as a freshman at Whitney Briggs University, loves her dorm, her roommate, her classes, but something feels as though it’s missing—enter Blake Daniels. He’s everything Annie is not—a rocker, a player, a college dropout. Her friends want to sleep with him, her brothers want to kill him, and all Annie wants is a chance to see where her heart takes her.

As the lead singer of 12 Deadly Sins, Blake has had his fair share of rock candy. But Annie has taken over his body, his mind, his heart—three things he’s never lost control of before.

Often first love and first heartbreak go hand in hand.

Sometimes the thrill of one is worth risking the other.

My Review:
Out of all the books in the 3:AM Kisses series, I was most looking forward to reading Annie’s story. Annie has just been a little sweetheart the whole way through the other books, and I loved how protective Holt and Bryson were of their little sister.

Annie is deaf and she has attended a special school most of her life. Determined to break out on her own, she enrolls in Whitney Briggs, and is ready to kickstart this next stage in her life. She bumps into rocker Blake on her first day and he is immediately taken with the gorgeous enigmatic Annie. Blake has his own skeletons in the closet and he’s not in a good place in his life. Blake’s own transformation was a tad bit unbelievable to me. I would have preferred if it had been stretched out a bit.

That said, their romance was sweet and he let her set the pace, and he turned into a real gent.

I loved how supportive and protective Blake was of Annie, but also how he was willing to accept she was an adult where her brothers were still treating her like a little kid. I can understand it to a point, but there were a few scenes where I wished I could leap into my Kindle and punch both Holt and Bryson. I felt they were also very hypocritical as reformed ex-players themselves. But their motivations were pure. I also loved getting to see some of my favorite couples again.

Olivia is a nasty piece of work. Ugh. I hated that Bryson and Holt dragged her in to explain, instead of letting Blake do that. That was really unfair. This storyline was very predictable in my opinion and I totally guessed the twist relatively early.

I don’t know anyone who is deaf, but it seemed realistically portrayed. I liked that Annie didn’t see it as a disability and how she didn’t let it hold her back in life. However, her mom was a little pushy when it came to the op, and it seemed like Annie was happy as she was. That said, in the end she seemed happy with the outcome.

All in all, this was a decent read and a good addition to the series.

Review: Forgetting August (Lost & Found #1) by J.L. Berg

She can forgive, but can she forget?

Some days, Everly still thinks she sees him. In the food court at the mall, or in a car speeding past as the light changes. It only lasts a second, but when it happens, she slips back to a time when she was ruled-and nearly ruined-by August Kincaid. And it doesn’t matter that she’s moved on, that she’s about to marry another man. In those moments the only thing she can do to regain control is take a deep breath and remind herself that August can’t hurt her-because he’s in a coma. Except that he’s not anymore.

August is awake. With no memories, he sets out to solve the mystery of his lost life. He unearths a photograph of a beautiful redhead named Everly and knows instinctively that she’s the key. But when he finds her, the August she describes is more monster than man.

Tortured by the thought of having hurt her, August wants only to become the man Everly deserves. As the new August emerges, Everly glimpses the person she first fell in love with. But can she trust that this August is real? When the final secret of their shared past is revealed, one of them will make a choice that changes their future forever . . .

My Review:
Disturbing. Addictive. Mysterious and loaded with intrigue. Emotionally-charged. These are just some of my thoughts after reading this unforgettable book. Forgetting August sucked me in and refused to let go – not until I had read it from cover to cover in one go.

I had to take a few days after reading this to properly gather my thoughts into some type of sensical order. Seriously, I was blown away after reading it. This was a dark, sometimes hopeful story of addictive love which explored that fine line between love and hate, obsession, and authenticity.

Character and plot development were strong and artfully woven with subtle foreshadowing and plenty of little teasers. The writing was exemplary and the execution was flawless. I will most definitely be checking out more of this author’s work.

Now, I’m not sure what it says about me, but I was totally rooting for August and Everly to get back together. I had a feeling that his previous actions – though morally reprehensible – had been done out of love and a fearful need to protect her. I imagine we are going to find out exactly what was driving his behavior in the next book. I have some unanswered questions like:

Who is Sarah’s mystery BF?
What’s the story with Trent?
Why wasn’t August more curious over what happened that fateful night?

I guessed the twist quite early on, but it was still a fab revelation. The only thing I didn’t like was how quickly it fell apart at the end and how neither of them questioned the other or their actions. I wanted to see more of a fight for their love.

I loved the chemistry between August and Everly and I totally bought into it. The period at the end of the book where they were in his house was a joy to read and it brought some balance to counter the darker stuff.

For me, this book was quite thought-provoking. I couldn’t help thinking what it would be like to be in August’s position. What would you do if you remembered nothing or no one from your life? What if you had a do-over, a second chance to be someone else? Who would you be? I was thinking this kind of stuff all day after reading it. I always think it’s the sign of a great book where it stays with you for days, and even weeks, after you read it. This is that book for me.

The biggest issue I have now is where can I get my hands on the next book?!! I need it like I need air to breathe.

Some favorite quotes from the review copy I received:

“Move in with me. Please. Warm my bed, live in my arms, never leave.”

“Everyone’s life is complicated and confusing, Everly. It’s what keeps us breathing and not falling over dead of boredom. It’s the chaos that makes life worth it. Don’t deny what you’re feeling because it’s not simple or easy. Deny something because it doesn’t feel right, not because it’s complicated.”

“Loving someone was easy. Life was the chaotic mess in between.”

Review: Daring Her Love: A Bradens Novella (Love in Bloom #22) by Melissa Foster

Daring her LoveTitle: Daring Her Love: A Bradens Novella
Author: Melissa Foster
Series: Love in Bloom #22
Rating: 4 stars
Genres: Contemporary Romance

This Braden novella features Kat Martin, Brianna Heart’s best friend from Hearts at Play (The Bradens, #6) with appearances from the hot, wealthy, and wickedly naughty Bradens you know and love.

Kat Martin knows what she wants in a man—someone stable and adoring, definitely not the type of guy who sleeps around. After all, Kat rarely does the wrong thing—until she meets seductively enticing Eric James, and suddenly wrong has never felt so right.

When it comes to his career, race-car driver Eric James is intense, obsessive, and passionate, but when it comes to sex, there’s only one kind—daring, unbridled, and no-strings-attached.

One stormy night, a delayed flight and the dangerous allure of the unknown leads Kat to throw caution to the wind, and she indulges in a rendezvous that she vows to immediately forget—but the secret tryst stirs something possessive in Eric, and forgetting is not an option.

My Review:
Daring Her Love is an enjoyable quick read that will appeal to fans of well-written, consistently-paced, steamy contemporary romance.

While I haven’t read any of the Braden novels, it didn’t matter in the slightest as the story still stands on its own. That said, I’m intrigued to discover more about Hugh and Brianna’s story and I will most definitely be grabbing a copy of that book in the near future.

While I felt the plot was fairly predictable, and a tad cliche and cheesy at times, it was still a good read. This was largely due to the romance and sexy times; the chemistry between Kat and Eric was scorching, and while it was a case of insta-lust/love, it felt believable in a head-over-heels once-in-a-lifetime type way. I enjoyed the witty banter between our couple and how they were both open and honest with each other despite mutual vulnerability.

As it’s a novella, it’s hard to delve deep into the characters psyche (this is where reading the other books in the series would be advantageous) but I felt the author achieved as much as she could, and I had a decent enough grasp of both personalities.

I was excited to read a book about race-car drivers as my dad was involved in that scene for years in Ireland, and my early childhood weekends were spent at a race track. We didn’t really get to see much of it (again, constraints of a novella) but what we did see was exciting all the same. This is another reason why I want to check out Hugh and Brianna’s book.

I enjoyed Melissa’s writing style and the words glided effortlessly across the page.

All in all, a great read and one I’d recommend.

Wingman rule number one: don’t fall for a client.

After a career-ending accident, former NFL recruit Ian Hunter is back on campus—and he’s ready to get his new game on. As one of the masterminds behind Wingmen, Inc., a successful and secretive word-of-mouth dating service, he’s putting his extensive skills with women to work for the lovelorn. But when Blake Olson requests the services of Wingmen, Inc., Ian may have landed his most hopeless client yet.

From her frumpy athletic gear to her unfortunate choice of footwear, Blake is going to need a miracle if she wants to land her crush. At least with a professional matchmaker by her side she has a fighting chance. Ian knows that his advice and a makeover can turn Blake into another successful match. But as Blake begins the transformation from hot mess to smokin’ hot, Ian realizes he’s in danger of breaking his cardinal rule.…

My Review:
Rachel Van Dyken is definitely a one-click author for me. I think this is the fifth book I have read by this very talented author and I have loved each and every one. Boy does Rachel know how to write great romantic comedy that is fresh, original, hysterically funny, and chock-a-block full of interesting characters and tons of swoon-worthy scenes.

I thought Ian was a total jackass at the start. Seriously, some of the crap coming out of his mouth made me want to reach into my Kindle and slap him around a bit. But he rapidly grew on me. Underneath all that swagger, he has a heart of gold. And he’s hot. And a modern day Superman. Yup, he’s the full package.

Ian has never been in love, and he’s quite dismissive of the notion until he meets Blake and she worms her way in deep.

Blake started out absolutely hating his guts, and it was really funny when she realized he was part of Wingman Inc. I loved the progression of their relationship and it developed quickly but naturally. It was pretty obvious how this one was going to play out but I was still surprised that David turned out to be such a douchecanoe. Blake is an intelligent girl and I can’t believe she would be so in love with someone who clearly didn’t value her friendship in the end. That’s the only part I wish had been written differently.

The dating service angle was different and not what I was expecting (in a good way.) Ian was so spot-on with the women, and it gave me plenty of laugh out loud moments. I loved that Lex had a nerdy IT side and he put it to good use producing matchmaking reports/stats. Loved that!

The writing and pacing are spot-on, and as so often happens with a book from one of my favorite authors, I started it last night intending on maybe reading half of it and stayed up until 2 a.m. to finish it. Read it in one go. Could not sit it down. It was way too entertaining.

Lex is a very intriguing character and I look forward to reading his story. It’s obvious that he and Gabi actually love each other underneath all the snarking, and I know the next book is going to be a real roller-coaster read jam-packed with angst and tormented toing and froing. I, for one, can’t wait for it!

If you enjoy well written romantic comedy you will adore this book. Highly recommended.

Excerpt :
“If you hurt her, I’m going to break off your favorite appendage.”
“Silly Gabi.” I grinned. “Is that an invitation to touch?”
“Guarantee if I ever do touch you, it will only end badly.”
“Tease.” I winked.
“Stop that.” She flicked me on the nose. “Your sexual prowess is dead to me. Dead!”
Rolling my eyes, I wrapped an arm around her and steered us both into the kitchen, where the smell of French bread and spaghetti filled the air. “Have I told you how much I miss our weekly dinners? Think we should do it daily? You know, so I don’t starve?”
Gabi shrugged out of my embrace. “Learn how to cook.”
I jutted out my lower lip. “It’s not for lack of knowledge.” I broke off a piece of warm bread, then poured myself a large glass of wine. “It’s because yours always tastes better.”
Gabi groaned loudly. “Damn, do the girls really fall for that? Still?”
“Eh.” I shrugged and made a so-so motion with my hand. “Nine out of ten.”
“You disgust me.”
“You say that every day.”
“Because it’s true every day.”
“When’s dinner ready?” Serena bounced into the room, literally, her head bobbing from left to right. Maybe that’s how girls like her built up more brain cells. They shook the air, and the pressure between their ears exploded, making tiny little brain-cell babies.
Gabi poked her head into the fridge. “When Lex gets here.”
“So it’s ready now?” she asked.
Never mind. No brain-cell babies. I fought the urge to point to the steaming spaghetti and bread sitting on the breakfast bar. Didn’t it look ready, kiddo?
“Technically,” I answered for Gabi. “But we aren’t eating”—I stressed the word “eating” even though I’d just taken some bread—“until my sidekick gets here.”
“Sidekick, huh?” Serena crossed her arms, forcing her boobs to kiss one another and nearly hit her in the chin.
“Oh, I thought you knew.” I gave her a sad face. “I’m the hero in this scenario . . . Even own my own cape. He’s basically the Robin to my Batman.”
“Batman’s hot.”
“So is Robin,” Gabi said defensively.
Whoa. Did she just defend Lex? I felt her forehead. She pushed my hand away and handed me some parmesan cheese.
The door flew open, and Lex stepped through, holding up two bottles of Cab. “Sorry, traffic was shit.”
“Language,” Gabi called.
Lex and I shared a look before Lex stomped over to the swear jar and tossed in a dollar bill.

Drummer Nate Campbell is a ‘Ruby Riot twin’ – and that’s all he wants anybody to know. The only person allowed close is his brother, Will, and even that’s not working out these days. For Nate, girls are a dispensable distraction and the rock star life suits his needs. Nobody will expect him to hand his heart over if he pretends he doesn’t have a one.

Falling for Nate Campbell was the second biggest mistake of Riley Sawyer’s life. Working as a junior PR girl on the Blue Phoenix European and Ruby Riot tour, she earned a reputation as unapproachable and unable to switch off from work. With a side to her life Riley keeps hidden, she was happy to maintain her distance. But after an encounter with Nate, and several difficult weeks, Riley left the circuit and vowed never to tour with bands again.

Two years later Riley achieves her ambition and is a PR manager and Ruby Riot are headlining stadiums. She meets Nate again for the first time in two years and nothing has changed. The animosity stands and so does the attraction. Neither sees this as a problem because they can avoid each other for the two days until Riley leaves.

What they don’t count on is that Nate’s bloody-mindedness and an unfortunate set of circumstances leads to the pair snowed-in at a pub on the Yorkshire Moors for several days. Forced to spend time together, Riley and Nate are pushed into discussing what happened on tour and find themselves in a situation neither of them expected.

When the snow retreats and they return to London, Nate discovers Riley has her own secret and it’s one deeply connected to his past. Nate backs away, unsure if he can continue a relationship with the girl who’s more like himself than he realised.

Nate won’t have long to decide because Riley isn’t prepared to let a damaged commitmentphobe into her life. And she has zero interest in fixing a man who refuses to fix himself.

Reprise is the third standalone book in the Ruby Riot series.

About the Author:
Lisa is an Amazon bestselling author of contemporary and paranormal romance. She is originally from the UK and moved to Australia in 2001. She now lives in Perth, Western Australia with her husband, three children, and Weimaraner, Tilly, who often makes appearances on Lisa’s social media.
Lisa’s first publication was a moving poem about the rain, followed by a suspenseful story about shoes. Following these successes at nine years old there was a long gap in her writing career, until she published her first book in 2013.
In the past, Lisa worked as an English teacher in France, as an advertising copywriter in England, and ran her own business in Australia. Now she spends her days with imaginary rock stars.
She lived in Europe as a child and also travelled when she left university. This has given Lisa stories which would sound far-fetched if she wrote them down, and maybe one day she will. These days, Lisa is happy in her writing cave, under Tilly’s supervision.

She insists she has no idea who he is.

He’s rugged and determined.

She’s wild and free.

Together, they’re a tornado.

Keeping it from touching down is the least of their worries.

DSC_9249About the Author:
By day, New York Times and USA Today bestselling New Adult author Emma Hart dons a cape and calls herself Super Mum to two beautiful little monsters. By night, she drops the cape, pours a glass of whatever she fancies – usually wine – and writes books.
Emma is working on Top Secret projects she will share with her followers and fans at every available opportunity. Naturally, all Top Secret projects involve a dashingly hot guy who likes to forget to wear a shirt, a sprinkling (or several) of hold-onto-your-panties hot scenes, and a whole lotta love.
She likes to be busy – unless busy involves doing the dishes, but that seems to be when all the ideas come to life.
