What do you get when you mix a bottle of tequila, a single mom moonlighting as a stripper, and her sinfully sexy boss with an impulsive side?
Married. You get married.

Rich. Demanding. Hot. Crazy.
That was Beckett Cruz in a nutshell.
Not to mention wild, determined, dangerous, and forbidden.
He was my boss—and, after a drunken moment of insanity, my new husband.
An annulment was impossible… so was keeping him.
I was taking my daughter and leaving, determined to give her a quieter life.
But Beckett Cruz had never taken no for an answer.
And he wasn’t about to take mine.

What happens in Vegas… might just keep you there.

My Review:
Another scintillating, panty-melting read from the extremely talented Emma Hart.

Stripped Down had a lot to live up to after the masterpiece that was Stripped Bare, but thankfully it met my expectations.

Cassie was abandoned by her heartless boyfriend when she fell pregnant at 16. Her daughter is now 6, and she has done her utmost to raise her with love and kindness, largely on her own. She has very supportive parents who have helped her out, but now her dad is ill and she needs to step up and help them out.

If you have read book one you know that Cassie and Beck got married at the end. This book starts off explaining how that happened. It did gloss over some of the details but that’s only because both of them were so wasted they actually couldn’t remember the specifics which led to them getting hitched. As you do!

Instead of getting divorced, they end up genuinely falling for one another and it was sweet and sexy in equal measure. Cassie has a hard time trusting any man after her past, but gradually she learns to open up to Beck. I adored the interaction between Beck and Ciara, and the scene where she questioned him if he was going to be her new dad nearly tore my heart right out of my chest. Seriously, well written.

Beck had a tough job trying to convince Cassie to give him a shot, but it was also a new departure for him too. He’s known as being a total playa, so committing himself to one woman was as scary for him as it was for Cassie to rely on a male.

Emma is a fantastic writer and the words always glide effortlessly over the pages of my Kindle. And, boy, does she know how to write steamy sex.

My only complaint is that this all took place in the space of two weeks which was totally not credible, but I pushed logic aside and just allowed myself to be entertained.

If you want a fun, heartrending story with depth, interesting characters, great writing and steamy romance, then this is the book for you.

Enjoyed it immensely.

Thanks to the author and Inkslinger PR for providing an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

4.5 stars.

EXCERPT

“Beck?” I managed to get his name out just before he opened the front door.
“Yeah?” He spun back to face me, his dark eyes unreadable.
I turned my face to the side so I could see him fully. “You don’t have to go,” I said softly. “You can stay. Only if you want to though.”
He rubbed his hand down his face, his eyes never leaving mine, then walked back into the kitchen toward me. I stood up away from the fridge as he stopped right next to me.
Slowly, he touched his hand to my face, his fingertips teasing my hairline. His dark gaze searched mine, and my heart jumped into my throat as the usual tingles his touch sparked danced down my neck. Then, he slid his hand into my hair, allowing the blonde strands to fall away from his fingertips.
“Do I want to go home to my big-ass house with its cold emptiness?” he asked in a low voice. “Or go to the club where half the girls there still see me as a mountain to be conquered? Not particularly, Blondie. I’d rather stay here. Even if there will be a demand for movies and water and foot rubs from a tiny, sick person.”
“You can.” My voice was quiet, like his. Even if my internal screams from self-preservation and vulnerability were deafeningly loud as they told me I was a fool, that he had to go, that this would never be enough for him.
“Do you want me to?” His question was… honest.
Raw.
Hesitant.
Like he didn’t want me to answer.
“Do I want you to stay here in my tiny house so my daughter can fall more in love with you than she already is? Not really. But…” Don’t be a fool, Cassie. Don’t admit you want him to stay. He’s just going to hurt you. “I don’t exactly want you to go either.”
“For her, or for you?”
“I don’t want to answer that question.”
“If I kissed you right now, would you ram your knee into my cock?”
“I’d briefly consider it, but I probably wouldn’t do it.”
His lips twitched to the side. “You just answered the question.”
Then, of course, he cupped the back of my head, and he kissed me. It was slow, sweet, gentle. And I didn’t consider kneeing him in the balls for a single second.
Beck pulled back and trailed his hand down my arm before he finally let me go. “I’m going home to get changed and then come back. Do you need anything while I’m gone? For CiCi? You?”
“I don’t…” I sighed and chewed back my pride. “I meant to go to the store today after work to get some stuff like bread, milk… important stuff. But now I can’t.”
“I can get it. Just tell me what you need.”
I bit the inside of my lip, then nodded. “Okay. Let me write it down.” I walked through into the front room with him hot on my heels and grabbed the notebook and pen from under the coffee table. A few things were already scrawled down, so I added a couple more things, including more medicine. I tore the sheet off the notebook, stood, then gave it to Beck. “Let me get my wallet.”
He grabbed my wrist, stopping me. “I’m not taking your money.”
I lifted my gaze to his. “You can’t pay for my groceries.”
“I can and I will.”
“You can’t and you won’t.”
“I can and I will.”
“You can’t and you won’t.”
“I can do this all day, baby. I’m stubborn as fuck.” His eyes told me he wasn’t lying. “And we all know I’m a brat about the word no. So, I can, I will, and I’m going to. If I can’t help you by buying a measly eight items, I’m an asshole who shouldn’t be allowed around other people.”
“You can’t buy my groceries,” I repeated. It was a lame argument. I was going to lose, but I’d fight until I went down.
Beck’s eyes twinkled as he leaned in. “Don’t worry. If you really want to pay me back, I’ll take a blow job. I imagine your lips around my cock will be a pretty good thank you.”
My jaw dropped as he backed off with a wink.
“Mouth open already, Cassie? Enthusiasm. I like that.”
I snapped my jaw shut and glared at him. “You’re a dirty pig.”
“I know. But I’ve got fifty bucks that says you’ll be sucking my dick by bedtime. If you don’t agree…” He shrugged one shoulder, his lips curved in that dangerous smirk.
“If you’re lucky, I’ll bite it.”
“I’ll take that as I’m in for a good time.”
One more wink, complete with expanding grin, and he was gone.
Motherfucking asshole.

My Review:
Wow. Awesome. This one gave me all the feels. Love Noah. Love, love, love him! Character development was superb in this book. Both mains were complex with significant issues and they grew so much as individuals when they became a couple. Combine an emotionally complex plot with beautiful writing and perfect pacing and you have one exhilarating read. I loved every word. Highly Recommended. A truly brilliant read.

An Indecent Proposal Teaser 5

Excerpt #2
Which only served to make her feel more awkward. Olivia threw up her hands. “I don’t know how to do this.”
“Do what?”
“This.” She motioned between the two of them. “This isn’t normal.”
He laughed again, quieter this time. “What does normal look like?” When she would have balked, he held out his hand. “Sit down. You’re making me twitchy with all the pacing. I’m not laughing at you. I’m laughing at the absurdity of this entire situation. So humor me and tell me what normal looks like.”
She didn’t know. That was the problem. Olivia wasn’t sure she’d recognize normal if it hit her in the face. But she wasn’t quite willing to share with Cillian exactly how messed up her childhood had been, outstanding chemistry or not. She inched closer to the bed and perched on the edge, but even with three feet between them, she felt like a lightning rod to his storm, full of vibrating energy and impending boom. She pulled at the edge of her T-shirt. “You know—we’d meet somewhere normal.”
“We met at a bar.”
“Most relationships don’t start in a bar.” She realized what she said and shoved to her feet. “Strike that. I didn’t mean relationship. I just…” Not sure what she was trying to say, she charged on. “Maybe a coffee shop. You’d be behind me in line and say something witty, and I’d laugh and you’d spend the next ten minutes charming me until I gave you my number.”
She was almost afraid to look at him and see his expression. His silence said it all. “That’s stupid, isn’t it?”
“No, not at all. It sounds nice.”
Olivia faced him. “You’re humoring me.”
“Sit down.” He waited for her to obey before he spoke again. “I’m not. It does sound nice.” He carefully leaned back against the headboard. “So I charm your number out of you, huh? I must be pretty charming.”
She shot him a look. “In this scenario, yes.”
Cillian laughed. “Then I’d call you.”
She edged over to sit on the other side of the mattress against the headboard. It was such a silly thing they were doing, but after how intense the rest of the night had been, maybe silly was exactly what they both needed. “A call instead of a text? I must have made an impression.”
“More like I was determined to make the right impression. Texts are lazy, and you can’t get a good read on someone that way. So I’d call.”
She hadn’t spent much time dating…well, ever, really…but even she knew that was different from the norm. “I’d think you were a freak for calling, but I’d answer because I was intrigued.”
“We’d talk for a while, feeling each other out.”
“More like me trying to figure out if you’re a psycho.”
He grinned. “Or that. I’d say all the things a normal guy would say. You’d be reassured that I wasn’t likely to chloroform you and chain you up in my torture-slash-sex dungeon.”
“That’s…comforting.”
“It would be, yes.”
She laughed softly. “We’d set up a date at the end of the call.”
“Somewhere nice and public and nonthreatening.”
“Now you’re getting the idea.” She stared at the ceiling, part of her kind of weirded out at how well the conversation was flowing with him playing along. “Dinner, no movie. Movies are for people who are too intimidated by the thought of first-date conversation that they chicken out.”
“The conversation would be titillating.”
“You think so?” She rolled onto her side to face him, finding that he’d done the same. His bandage was a vivid reminder of why they were there in the first place. Olivia frowned. “How’re you feeling?”
“That’s not part of the game.” He yawned. “So we’d drink pretentious wine that neither one of us liked and order things that we could barely pronounce and, at the end of it, we’d sheepishly admit that we didn’t like either the drinks or the food, and we’d go find a food truck and laugh at ourselves.”
It was an attractive picture he painted. Normal and kind of sweet and something she’d never have the option of doing. She made a face. “Instead, you wander into my bar because your family’s territory encompasses it and we have a quick fuck in the alley.” She should regret it. She knew she should. There were thousands of dating books and columns out there advising women to withhold sex until they had some sort of commitment.
Except she didn’t regret a damn thing.

He told me to ‘settle, girl.’
He asked if ‘something was wrong with me?’
He said I was an ‘easy target.’
That was within minutes when I first met Caden Banks.
I labeled him an *sshole, but he was more than that. Arrogant. Smug. Alpha.

He was also to-die-for gorgeous, and my stepbrother’s fraternity brother.

Okay, yes I was a little naive, a tad bit socially awkward, and the smallest amount of stalker-ish, but if Caden Banks thought he could tell me what to do, he had another thing coming.

I came to college with daydreams about being with my stepbrother, but what would happen if I fell for the anti-stepbrother instead?

anti - stepbrother teaser 1

My Review:
A funny, heart-warming, sexy, smoldering-hot, coming-of-age, friends-to-lovers, story that is pure Tijan. Jam-packed full of drama, angst, emotional complexity, intriguing characters, swoon-worthy guys, and a refreshingly different MC that you can’t help rooting for, Anti-Stepbrother is a triumph.

I devoured this book as if it was my fav chocolate cake – I just couldn’t get enough. Towards the end, I started to have a panic attack because I knew it was drawing to a close, and I wasn’t ready to give up Caden Banks.

Tijan writes seriously amazing book boyfriends. What I really liked about Caden was that he was a genuinely good guy. Yes, we are told he was a bad boy before, but we didn’t see any of that here, and I just loved that. He was a sweet, caring guy through and through.

Summer was a fantastic character, although it did take me a little while to warm up to her. But as her character developed and matured, and she became more confident in herself, I really enjoyed how different she was. I cringed for her at times – she was very socially inept on occasions – but it was surprisingly endearing. What she ever saw in that douche Kevin is beyond me. We are given an explanation toward the end that is plausible, but I would have happily jumped into my Kindle to shake some sense into her on plenty of occasions.

I enjoyed the slow-burning romance and the chemistry was great between our two mains. Caden was so protective of Summer and it melted my heart. The romantic scenes were great, and so well written (pure Tijan.)

I also liked the subplot with Colton, and I enjoy novels that incorporate important educational aspects once they tie well into the plot and are realistically handled, as was the case here. Colton was a great character and Caden’s interactions with his brother only strengthened my love for him.

I loved the college setting and all the drama and angst – totally right up my street.

All in all, this was a fantastic read. If you are a Tijan fan, you will love it. If you aren’t – why the heck not?

Actual Rating 4.5 stars.

I didn’t begin writing until after undergraduate college. There’d been storylines and characters in my head all my life, but it came to a boiling point one day and I HAD to get them out of me. So the computer was booted up and I FINALLY felt it click. Writing is what I needed to do. After that, I had to teach myself how to write. I can’t blame my teachers for not teaching me all those years in school. It was my fault. I was one of the students that was wishing I was anywhere but at school! So after that day, it took me lots of work until I was able to put together something that resembled a novel. I’m hoping I got it right since someone must be reading this profile! And I hope you keep enjoying my future stories.

An Indecent Proposal Teaser 1

My Review:
This is the third book in The O’Malley’s series and the second one I have read. It can be read as a standalone.

Cillian O’ Malley is carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders and it tells. Since his younger brother’s murder, he has begun questioning everything about the life he is leading and the world he inhabits. Previously he was all about the girls and the booze, but not so much anymore. New girl in town, Olivia, has captured his eye in a way most girls don’t. But she’s infuriating, choosing to believe in his rep rather than taking the time to get to know him. However, neither one of them can deny the scorching hot chemistry between them.

One moment of passion changes everything and these two fall hot and heavy for one another.

At the same time, the power struggle for control of Boston is playing out behind the scenes, with both mains caught on different sides. Olivia wants nothing to do with her half-brother, but he is determined to sink his claws in deep.

Olivia was a great character. A determined single mother whose sole wish was to protect her daughter from her destructive ex and her deranged half-brother. She’s determined to stand on her own two feet but is forced by circumstance into accepting Cillian’s help. She quickly realizes that he’s not the man she thought he was, and she starts to open her heart to the possibility of a relationship with him.

Cillian is trying to do everything to protect Olivia and her daughter, even if that means going behind his family’s back.

I enjoyed this book, just not as much as the first one. The plot could’ve been further developed and I felt the romance happened way too fast. The book came across as rushed in parts. The writing is solid, and the pacing was consistent in the main. I enjoy the world and characters that Katee has created. Overall, I enjoyed it, and it was a decent read, but I wasn’t blown away.

Actual rating 3.5 stars.

An Indecent Proposal Teaser 2

Excerpt:
“Thanks.” There it was again, that look that threatened to curl her toes. He reached out and took the washcloth from her and tossed it onto the nightstand. “I’m going to kiss you now.”
She should object, move away, do something other than rest her hands on the top of his thighs and tilt her head up. Stupid, stupid, stupid. Didn’t the last few years teach you anything? Apparently not, because she wanted Cillian to kiss her again, and she wanted him to kiss her now.
Truth be told, she wanted him to do a whole lot more than that.
Olivia licked her lips. “Okay.”
His lips quirked up at the edges. “I can see I’m blowing your socks off. Let’s see if I can do better.” He cupped her face with one hand and then his mouth was on hers, soft and teasing, testing—nothing like the forceful kiss that started everything last night. She opened for him immediately, driven by the lightning dancing just beneath her skin. She wished she could blame it on being skin-starved, but the truth was that this man was doing more with a near-innocent kiss than Sergei had ever done with his entire body and hours at his disposal. I am in so much trouble.
Then Cillian’s tongue stroked hers and she was lost. She gripped his thighs as he explored her mouth, giving herself permission to do some exploring of her own. He was all lean muscle, as if he’d been melted down and stuck in a forge, only to come out new. She ran her hands up his legs, stopping just short of his hips.
He took it from there. He ran his fingers through her hair and down her back, inching her closer until there was nothing more than a breath of distance between them. It would have been so damn easy to lean forward and touch him, pressing her body against his, but the separation was almost unbearably erotic. She shivered again, tilting her head back to give him better access.
She’d never been kissed like this, like she was something to be savored…valued. Like he had all the time in the world and he’d still never get enough.
Common sense tried to rear up and remind her that it was a goddamn kiss, not a lifetime commitment, but then his thumb feathered across the underside of her breast, and all rational reasoning flew right out the window.
He rested his forehead against hers, and groaned. “You’re making it hard to be good, sweetheart.”

Chloe Stone’s life is a hot mess. Determined to stop being so freaking skittish, she packs up her quasi-famous best friend and heads to Florida. The goal? Complete the summer bucket list to end all bucket lists. The problem? Her hot soon-to-be stepbrother, Landon Jacobs.

Landon’s mom will throttle him if he even looks at his future stepsister the wrong way. Problem is, Chloe is everything he didn’t know he wanted, and that’s…inconvenient. Watching her tear it up on a karaoke stage, stand up to his asshole friend, and rock her first string bikini destroys his sanity.

But there’s more than their future family on the line. Landon is hiding something—something he knows will change how she feels about him—and she’s hiding something from him, too. And when the secrets come out, there’s a good chance neither will look at the other the same way again…

My Review:
A sweet, uplifting, coming-of-age romance that will give you all the feels!

I seem to be addicted to forbidden romances at the moment, and I must admit it was what attracted me to request a review copy of The Summer Before Forever. However, to categorize this book as such would be doing it a massive injustice, because there is so much depth to this read and it is much more than just a story of two soon to be step-siblings who fall hard for each other.

This is a story about overcoming obstacles to follow your heart’s desire.

Chloe undergoes massive character development throughout this book, bolstered by support from both Landon and Jenna. Jenna was an absolute hoot – a minor celebrity thanks to a stint on a TV show/competition, she clearly loves the spotlight. She is the polar opposite of shy Chloe in that regard. However, Jenna was such a fantastic friend to her, encouraging her to come out of her shell, and to deal with the issues as a result of a horrible assault she had endured.

Landon had my heart from the first time he made an appearance on my Kindle. What a complete and utter sweetheart. It’s clear they are attracted to one another from the minute they meet but it takes a few weeks for them to act on it. I loved the build-up and getting to know both of them during that time. They really brought out the best in one another, and it epitomizes everything that is wonderful in a relationship when it’s truly meant to be.

I’ve heard of dyslexia but I hadn’t heard of dyscalculia until I read this book. Landon was following a different path in life rather than the one he desired because he felt the limitations of his disability. He never came across as weak even though he often felt like that on the inside. I loved the end of the book and how Chloe helped him face up to the challenges and move beyond them. Such a sweet, empowering, feel-good message.

I enjoyed the author’s writing style, and there was great emotional complexity and characterization. Voice was strong and distinguishable. It was a little slow the first 15% but that was a non-issue thereafter. The sexual assault was a little glossed over, and I felt that could’ve been explored a little more, however, it didn’t dent my enjoyment.

In summary, this was a fantastic read and I highly recommend to fans of well-written sweet contemporary YA romance.

Excerpt
The sun shone into the room, and it took me a few moments to realize where I was. I didn’t recognize the king-size bed, or the black sheets, but then Caden walked past the open door and all the memories flooded into place.
I slept at his place.
I glanced around the bed… I slept in his bed!
“Your alarm’s about to go off in ten minutes,” Caden called from the doorway. He had a cup of coffee in hand and wore only jeans.
I tried to keep my eyes front and center, but I lost. The tattoos were a nice little zig-zag pattern, pulling my gaze down, all the way down. Caden’s slow, smooth chuckle told me he knew what I’d just done. My cheeks only warmed a little.
I shot him a look, falling back to the pillow. “I feel like this should be the first skip day of my school career.”
“You’ve never skipped before?”
I shook my head, rolling it side to side on the pillow. “Am I missing out? Should I embrace my inner deviant?”
He smirked. “You can skip a class for any reason in the world. It’s your life.”
I sat up, eyeing that coffee. “You were supposed to be the bad influence.”
His eyebrow lifted. “I’m not selling it enough?” He lifted his cup. “You want some coffee?”
“I’m wondering if today is the day I try coffee too.”
“You’ve never had coffee?”
“I’m beginning to think I’m lame.” I thought about it. “Really lame.”
“You slept at some guy’s house last night. Think of it that way.” His smirk was back. “Not so lame now.”
I could do one better. “I slept at a fraternity house.”
“And you drank beer.”
“It was the second night in a row that I drank beer.”
“See? Not so lame after all.”
“You’re right.” I sat up. “I’m halfway to total badass.”
He grinned. “We cuddled last night, and you could think of it as dry humping. You almost got some last night.”
Except I hadn’t, and we were in the friend zone. Why were my hands curling around the covers into tight balls? I glanced down and forced them to loosen, then shrugged, trying to be the nonchalant badass I was.
“You carried me to bed. Almost the same thing.”
Suddenly, the joking was gone, and his eyes burned. I could feel his heat from across the room, and my body reacted, instantly warming even before he said a word.
“Nothing’s the same as sliding inside,” he murmured after a moment. “The feel of being in there, feeling that clench around you, knowing you can push as deep as you want, as hard or gently as you want. Nope. I’ve gotta step off the joke train for a moment here. Nothing is remotely the same as that feeling.”
Fuck. My pulse spiked.
He tossed me a look. “Maybe I’ll cop a feel the next time.”
I pretended to groan. “One more notch on my badass peg. You better cop a feel next time.”
“Is that all I am to you? A notch on the bedpost? I feel so used, Stoltz.”
Okay. My last name. We were back on familiar ground here. But my grin was still a little shaky.
“Get used to it, Banks. I’m only disguised as this plain Jane. Inside there’s a wild woman just waiting to be let loose.”
He didn’t reply.
He stared at me for a few more seconds, then straightened from the doorway. “There’s nothing plain about you, Summer.”

tijan bioAbout the Author:

Vivian Bingley has big plans for her semester abroad in Spain…

Along with her BFF, Maddie, Vivian hopes to indulge her inner Art History nerd by visiting the best museums in the world. She also wants to tackle more practical concerns—like a less than stellar GPA in her major, Economics—with the help of a Spanish tutor.

But falling for her studly Spanish tutor definitely isn’t one of them.

Madrileño Rafa Montoya is the stuff study abroad dreams are made of: super studly and super smart. He also happens to be super into Vivian. With his wicked dancing skills and his passion for the arts, he tempts her to throw caution to the wind and live out her wildest dreams.

Only problem? Maddie wants Rafa, too, and Vivian promised herself she’d never settle for second best again…not after a hookup-gone-awry last semester left her heartbroken. Is it best for Vivian to protect her heart at all costs? Or is letting Rafa in worth the risk?

This book is a New Adult contemporary romance, suitable for mature audiences.

My Review:
Actual rating 3.5 stars.

Vivian is at a bit of a crossroads in her life. Her grades are dropping, she’s still a bit heartbroken over her cheating ex, and she isn’t sure what she wants to do with her life. She takes the opportunity to study in Spain for six months and finally finds her true path and her true love.

I adored the writing in this book, and it’s clear that Jessica is a talented writer. I love the setting with all the Spanish culture and sayings. It was definitely refreshingly different in that regard.

And Rafa, wow, what a guy. I loved his Justin Timberlake moves. Lol. Rafa was super hot and super patient, because, honestly, Vivian was such hard work at times. But I’ll come to her in a minute. I wasn’t sure at first if I really understood the attraction between the pair of them, but as the story progressed, their chemistry burned holes in my Kindle. Love how the romance and sex scenes were written. And I liked how he never entertained any notion of Maddie. He was always obviously into Vivian.

The biggest issue I had with this book was Vivian. She really grated on my nerves, and it was only toward the end of the story that I actually started to warm to her. All the sobbing at the start really annoyed me. She is twenty, not twelve, and she made a decision to study abroad, and she was going with her BFF, so there was no need to cry into her pillow. Straight off the bat, she came across as weak. Then all the toing and froing with Rafa annoyed me too. So many issues could have been avoided if she had just been honest with herself and with him and Maddie. I also thought her stance on relationships was strange for someone so young. She was a total contradiction at times – too mature in that regard, and very immature in other situations.

Maddie was a bit of an oddball to me, and I’m not sure I bought into their so-called friendship. Then again, she was dealing with some troubling personal issues, and who knows how that would mess with your head.

It all turns out well in the end, and I do love a HEA.

Overall, this was a decent read, but I would have enjoyed it more if the MC had had more strength of character. The writing, the setting, and the sizzling hot señor were the standouts, for me.
